May 28, 2025 | Events, News

The Press Ombudsperson Susan McKay was last week honoured with membership of the Royal Irish Academy at a conferring ceremony in Dublin. She is one of four council nominated new members and is pictured below with two others – both fellow northerners – Linda Ervine, a leading figure in the Irish language movement, and Sir David Stirling former head of the NI civil service. Susan’s citation for the honour read:

Susan McKay is the Press Ombudsman and one of the most highly respected non-fiction writers and journalists in Ireland. She is the author of five books, including the seminal Northern Protestants: an unsettled people (Blackstaff Press). She has been named the National Media Print Journalist of the Year, Feature Writer of the Year and Irish Woman of the Year, and she received an honorary doctorate from Trinity College Dublin.
