Decided by the Press Ombudsman

The Press Council of Ireland upheld an appeal made by the editor of Kerry’s Eye following a decision of the Press Ombudsman to uphold a complaint made by Mr Tony Sugrue.

The Press Ombudsman has not upheld a complaint that the Sunday World breached Principle 1 (Truth and Accuracy) and Principle 5 (Privacy) of the Code of Practice of the Press Council of Ireland.

The Press Ombudsman has decided that the Sunday World offered to take action which would have been sufficient to resolve a complaint by Mr David O’Brien that the newspaper had breached Principle 1 (Truth and Accuracy) of the Code of Practice of the Press Council of Ireland.

The Press Ombudsman has upheld a complaint that the Irish Daily Star breached Principle 1 (Truth and Accuracy) and Principle 5 (Privacy) of the Code of Practice of the Press Council of Ireland.

The Press Council of Ireland upheld an appeal against this decision submitted by the editor of the Waterford News & Star.   

The Press Ombudsman has decided that sufficient action was offered to resolve a complaint made by Mr Andrew Shannon that the Irish Sun breached Principle 1 (Truth and Accuracy) of the Code of Practice of the Press Council of Ireland.  A claim that Principle 5 (Privacy) was  breached was not upheld.

The Press Ombudsman has decided that he has been provided with insufficient evidence to make a decision on a complaint made by Mr Hermann Kelly that the Business Post breached Principle 1 (Truth and Accuracy) of the Code of Practice of the Press Council of Ireland.

The Press Ombudsman has decided not to uphold a complaint made by Mr Hermann Kelly that TheJournal.ie breached Principle 1 of the Code of Practice of the Press Council of Ireland.

The Press Ombudsman has not upheld a complaint that the Irish Daily Star breached Principle 2 (Distinguishing Fact and Comment) of the Code of Practice of the Press Council of Ireland. There is insufficient evidence to uphold a claim that Principle 1 (Truth and Accuracy) had also been breached.

The Press Ombudsman has not upheld a complaint that The Echo breached Principle 5 (Privacy) of the Code of Practice of the Press Council of Ireland.
