Decided by the Press Ombudsman

The Press Ombudsman has decided not to uphold a complaint that the Irish Daily Star breached Principle 1 (Truth and Accuracy) and Principle 5 (Privacy) of the Code of Practice of the Press Council of Ireland

The Press Ombudsman has not upheld a complaint by Mr Peter Reynolds that The Irish Times breached Principle 1 (Truth and Accuracy), Principle 2 (Distinguishing Fact and Comment) and Principle 9 (Children) of the Code of Practice of the Press Council of Ireland.

On 30 September 2021 the Press Ombudsman decided that The Irish Times took sufficient action to resolve a complaint made by Mr Tom Cooper that Principle 1 (Truth and Accuracy) of the Code of Practice of the Press Council of Ireland had been breached.

The Press Ombudsman has not upheld a complaint that the Irish Examiner breached Principle 1 (Truth and Accuracy), Principle 2 (Distinguishing Fact and Comment) and Principle 4 (Respect for Rights) of the Code of Practice of the Press Council of Ireland.

On 1 October 2021, the Press Ombudsman did not uphold a complaint against The Journal that Principle 1 (Truth and Accuracy) of the Code of Practice of the Press Council of Ireland had been breached.

The Press Ombudsman has upheld a complaint that The Irish Times breached Principle 1 (Truth and Accuracy) of the Code of Practice of the Press Council of Ireland.

The Press Ombudsman has not upheld a complaint made by Mr Hermann Kelly that The Journal breached Principle 1 (Truth and Accuracy) of the Code of Practice of the Press Council of Ireland.

On 20 August 2021, the Press Ombudsman did not uphold a complaint by Mr Ken Byrne that the Irish Examiner breached Principle 1 (Truth and Accuracy), Principle 2 (Distinguishing Fact and Comment), Principle 3 (Fair Procedures and Honesty), Principle 4 (Respect for Rights), Principle 8 (Prejudice) and Principle 9 (Children) of the Code of Practice of the Press Council of Ireland.

On 6 August 2021, the Press Ombudsman determined that The Irish Times offered to take sufficient action to resolve a complaint made by Dr Christine Gaffney, Ms Rachel Moran and Professor Kathleen Stock that Principle 1 (Truth and Accuracy), Principle 2 (Distinguishing Fact and Comment), Principle 3 (Fair Procedures and Honesty), Principle 4 (Respect for Rights) and Principle 8 (Prejudice) of the Code of Practice of the Press Council of Ireland had been breached.

The Press Ombudsman has found that the Irish Mail on Sunday and Extra.ie offered to take action which would have been sufficient to resolve a complaint that Principle 1 (Truth and Accuracy) of the Code of Practice of the Press Council of Ireland had been breached. He has found that Principle 2 (Distinguishing Fact and Comment) and Principle 4 (Respect for Rights) were not breached.
