The Press Ombudsman has decided not to uphold a complaint made by Fuels for Ireland about an article published in June 2023 on the Science and Climate section of The Irish Times.

The Press Ombudsman has decided not to uphold a complaint that the Irish Independent breached Principle 1 (Truth and Accuracy) of the Press Council’s Code of Practice in an article it published in January 2021. The complainant has requested that his name should not be used in this decision.

The Press Ombudsman has decided not to uphold a complaint from Ms Virginia Guinan against the Sunday World about an article it published in February 2023.  The article is headlined “Family agony of man who died in chicken attack”, with a subheading: “Victim’s little son was killed in tragic 1995 knife accident”. The main photograph is of the man, Jasper Kraus, while a smaller photo shows his son, Kevin.  Ms Guinan is Mr Kraus’s daughter.

The complaint from Environmental Trust Ireland concerns a report of a special meeting of Limerick City and County Council’s Metropolitan District in December 2022 to discuss a planning issue. This was published in the Limerick Leader newspaper, and in its online publication, Limerick Live.

The Press Ombudsman has decided not to uphold a complaint against The Irish Times by a man. The complainant wishes to be anonymous.  The article, published in April 2023, was headlined, “The doctor who questioned Ireland’s Covid policy and lost his job: ‘We destroyed young people’s lives for what?’” It comprised an interview of Dr Martin Feeley in which his voice predominates. The complainant said it breached Principle 1 (Truth and Accuracy), Principle 2 (Distinguishing Fact and Comment) and Principle 8 (Prejudice).
