Bob Hughes is Executive Director of Local Ireland, the association which represents local news publishers across the country.
A journalist and broadcaster, he began his career as a newspaper reporter with the Midland News Association in England, working initially with Shropshire Weekly Newspapers before moving to the daily regional evening publication, the Express and Star.
He then moved to London to become a sub-editor with the Press Association before joining Channel 4 News, ITN, where he became a television producer. He then joined Reuters as a programme editor.
In Ireland, he worked initially for Radio Ireland/Today FM before joining TV3 as Deputy Director of News. His subsequent consultancy work has included Virgin Media Television, the Thomson Foundation and TVC Nigeria. Prior to joining Local Ireland, Bob was a special adviser in the Department of Communications, Climate Action and the Environment and in the Department of Rural and Community Development.
