Appeal No. 2356/2025 – A Woman and sundayworld.com

Nov 19, 2025 | Appeals to the Press Council

The woman appealed the decision of the Press Ombudsman to only partially uphold a complaint she made about an article published by sundayworld.com.

The woman submitted her appeal on the grounds that:

1. The procedures followed in making the decision were not in accordance with the published procedures for considering complaints.
2. That there had been an error in the Press Ombudsman’s application of the Principles of the Code of Practice. At its meeting on 19 November 2025 the Press Council considered the appeal on the grounds relied upon and on the information, documentation and submissions made by both parties to the appeal.

The Press Council, in coming to its decision, acknowledged the extremely sad and difficult circumstances of the case, and the deep sorrow borne by the complainant and her family.

However, the Press Council found that the appeal did not contain any evidence to indicate that the procedures followed by the Press Ombudsman were not in accordance with the published procedures for considering complaints. Nor did it find that there was any inconsistency in the Press Ombudsman’s application of Principle 1 of the Code of Practice in relation to the two separate matters outlined in the appeal. The appeal was therefore rejected.
