Appeal No. 2074/2024 – Mr Noel O’Connor and the Limerick Post

May 21, 2025 | Appeals to the Press Council

Mr Noel O’Connor appealed a decision made by the Press Ombudsman on a complaint he made about an article published by the Limerick Post.

Mr O’Connor submitted his appeal on the grounds that there had been an error in the Press Ombudsman’s application of Principle 1 (Truth and Accuracy) and Principle 2 (Distinguishing Fact and Comment) of the Press Council’s Code of Practice.

At its meeting on 21 May 2025 the Press Council considered the appeal on the grounds relied upon and on the information, documentation and submissions made by both parties to the appeal.

The Press Council found that Mr O’Connor’s appeal did not contain sufficient evidence to support the grounds under which it was submitted. It therefore decided to reject the appeal.
