Decision of the Press Council
The publication appealed the Press Ombudsman’s decision on the grounds that there had been an error in the Press Ombudsman’s application of Principle 1 (Truth and Accuracy) of the Code of Practice. It said that the information complained about was not published as fact, but was attributed to a source as an estimated value, and that it could therefore not be construed as a “significant inaccuracy” under Principle 1.
At its meeting on 5 October 2018 the Press Council decided to uphold the appeal on the grounds put forward by the publication.
