Nov 5, 2021 | Appeals to the Press Council

The complainant appealed the decision of the Press Ombudsman to the Press Council of Ireland on the grounds (a) the procedures followed in making the decision were not in accordance with the published procedures for submitting and considering complaints and (b) that there had been an error in the application of the Code of Practice by the Press Ombudsman.

Decision of Press Council on appeal.

The Press Council considered the appeal at its meeting on Friday, 5 November 2021. The Council rejected the appeal on each of the grounds cited. The appeal was rejected because the Council decided that it did not contain sufficient evidence to support the appellant’s case that the procedures followed in making the decision were not in accordance with the published procedures for submitting and considering complaints, or that there had been an error in the application of the Code of Practice by the Press Ombudsman.
